SpaceX Adds Mysterious Zuma Payload To Launch Schedule.
On Tuesday, October 17th, SpaceX added the mysterious Zuma payload to its launch manifest. The mission will launch from launch complex 39A (LC-39A) at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The launch is no earlier than (NET) November.
The Zuma payload that SpaceX wants to launch next month is so mysterious, SpaceX did not immediately release the name of the customer paying them for the ride on the Falcon 9 rocket. While writing this article, SpaceX announced it would launch the payload for Northrop Grumman under a commercial launch contract. The satellite is labeled as a government payload and will launch to Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
SpaceX will attempt to launch the Zuma payload between the KoreaSat-5A mission and the CRS-13 / Spx-13 missions. SpaceX will also launch the payload with a brand new Falcon 9 core and might also attempt a Return To Launch Site or RTLS landing at landing zone 1 (LZ-1) at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station a few miles South of Kennedy Space Center.
